Detective Julian Gray is one of the hardest working members of the Metropolitan Police Force. He has developed a reputation for unrelenting determination when it comes to solving cases; however, that tenacity has been put to the test by his latest case, a series of mysterious thefts targeting the highest members of society.

When Fanny offers an unexpected assist in preventing the next robbery, Julian hits upon a foolproof method to solve the case. Fanny will use her connections in society to uncover clues that will hopefully lead to the mastermind behind the thefts. In exchange for her assistance, Julian will reopen the investigation into her husband’s death.

As the danger increases, so, too, does the risk to their hearts.  What Readers Have to Say

England 1880

This is such an engaging series. It took me a couple of chapters to refresh on the characters, but I rather quickly got back into happenings of Roderick Glen. While the main focus is on widow Fanny and Detective Julian Gray, there are a number of secondary stories that unfolded as well. I adore CeCe and her medical ambitions. My favorite phrase came from astronomer Nichols..."Stars and Planets!" He used this numerous times as an exclamation. I'm so glad the series is not yet over. There are a couple of romances that I'm hoping will be included in future novels.

Are you looking for a fun read you can hardly put down? I highly recommend Kristie Self's 'The Socialite', the 4th book in the 'Ladies of Roderick Glen' series. It's got mystery, murder, intrigue, clean romance, humor, Christian themes, and plenty of heartfelt moments. This series is so fun as it follows the lives of multiple individuals connected with the Roderick Glen community, some local and others in London or even foreign locales. Each book continues from the last, but you could read them separately if you wanted to (but you want to read them all, and in order...go, go, go!).

Fanny's story is the main one in this book, and it was very intriguing and enjoyable. Julian is a perfect match for her, and while they fall for each other early, it's got a slow-burn feel and is so sweet and clean. I'm also highly invested in CeCe's story (Will she be able to become a doctor? Will she and the guy I'm hoping she ends up with fall in love?) And Victoria and Barney are also an intriguing future couple, I assume. That's what's so fun about these books, you can enjoy getting invested in the characters because you know they will have a satisfying end.

I think this is my favorite one so far, between the murder mystery and some of the other storylines I've been looking forward to continuing. I can't wait for the next one!

Note that there is some use of alcohol, and most consumption is shown in a negative light. Otherwise, it's clean language and content.

Kristie Self is a master storyteller with such a vivid imagination and a wonderful memory to keep all these threads alive and straight in her head. Reading this series has been a very enjoyable experience. I can’t wait to find the answers to the new questions I now have.
